When you order ice, the first question is simple: cubes or blocks? They do different jobs, and for most parties and events the best answer is a bit of both.
Ice cubes: for drinks
Cubes are what goes into the glass. They chill a drink quickly because lots of small pieces means lots of surface touching the liquid. That same surface area is why cubes melt faster. Mad Ice cubes come in 3 kg, 6 kg and 10 kg bags and are made from purified, filtered, UV-treated water, so they are safe to put straight into drinks.
Ice blocks: for keeping things cold
A 14 kg ice block has far less surface exposed to warm air than the same weight of cubes, so it melts much more slowly. That makes blocks ideal for cooler boxes, drinks tubs, catering, fishing trips and transport, anywhere you need cold that lasts for hours.
When to order both
- Party or braai: cubes for the drinks, a block in each cooler box.
- Outdoor event: cubes for the bar, blocks under the cubes in tubs so the cubes last longer.
- Camping or a weekend away: mostly blocks, with a bag of cubes for drinks on the first day.
- Fishing: blocks to keep the catch cold on the way home.
