Outdoor events in Johannesburg can get very hot, and ice is usually the first thing to run out. A bit of planning keeps the drinks cold from the first guest to the last.
1. Order enough, and a little extra
On hot days ice melts faster, so plan for more than you would indoors. Tell us your guest numbers, the length of the event and whether it is in the sun, and we will help you work out quantities.
2. Don’t put it all out at once
Keep most of the ice frozen or in closed coolers and bring it to the bar a few bags at a time. Ice sitting in an open tub in the sun is ice you are losing.
3. Shade everything
Set up the bar and coolers under a gazebo, tree or tent. Even simple shade makes a big difference.
4. Use blocks under the cubes
In drinks tubs, put a 14 kg block at the bottom and cubes on top. The block keeps the tub cold for hours, so the cubes last longer.
5. Get on-site cold storage for big events
For weddings, festivals and large functions, the most reliable option is to keep ice in proper cold storage at the venue. Mad Ice offers on-site mobile cold storage, so your ice stays frozen until the moment you need it.
