December is the busiest time of year for ice in Johannesburg. Year-end functions, Christmas lunches, New Year parties and long, hot days all mean more cold drinks. Here is how to make sure you don’t run out.
Book early
Demand for ice peaks in December, especially around public holidays and weekends. If you know your function date, get in touch early so we can plan your delivery.
Work out how much you need
A common rule of thumb for drinks is about 1 kg of ice per guest for a party of three to four hours, with more on hot days or if you are also chilling bottles in tubs. Our guide How much ice do you need for a party? goes into more detail.
Your festive ice checklist
- Guest numbers and how long the event runs
- Indoors or outdoors, shade or sun
- Cubes for drinks: 3 kg, 6 kg or 10 kg bags
- 14 kg blocks for cooler boxes and drinks tubs
- Somewhere to keep it frozen until you need it
- For big functions: on-site mobile cold storage
